Classroom Use
Canada: Apartheid Nation tells the story about how Attawapiskat First Nations can live next to one of the most profitable diamond mines in the world, the De Beers diamond mine, yet experience third-world conditions. Despite having a high number of Aboriginal students in our classrooms, that does not necessarily mean that our students are familiar with reserve communities and understand the jurisdictions that govern them. Similar to, Life on the Reserve, this documentary is a good example to highlight the differences between reserve and non-reserve communities in regards to jurisdiction, funding, access to resources, etc. |
